As we weren’t able to bring the Twinkle Brothers to Berlin just quite yet, we decided to invite over Jahminta Zulu from the Roots Daughters for a little session at our headquarters, which we broadcast live on Youtube! The result is a 6-hour odyssey through Roots, Reggae, Dub, Steppas and 140.

a journey through 25 years of Jungle music

“A Jungle Odyssey” takes you on a journey through 25 years of Jungle music, from it’s obscure beginnings in the early 90’s, where it quickly became the music of a generation in urban city centers throughout the UK, through it’s darker days at the turn of the millennium, to it’s current, international “jungle revival” which has seen the genre going back to it’s reggae and dub influenced roots in recent years!

Originally conceived of in 2017, Jimi Handtrix spent the last 2 years researching and compiling this historic selection, often spending months hunting for specific tunes, and then spending weeks narrowing down the selection from over 300 tracks – with 4 tunes from every year between 1993 and 2017.

“My aim with this project – which with all the time I spent researching and compiling, somehow felt like a master’s thesis of sorts – was to showcase a selection of my 100 favourite tunes, while taking my listeners on a (chronological) journey through the history of Jungle / Drum & Bass.”

“The hardest part for me was actually narrowing down the selection to only 4 tracks from each year, as especially in the early years, I had a huge selection of foundational tunes to choose from. In the end I decided on those few tunes that I felt had the strongest impact on shaping the progression of the genre, and which also largely influenced me throughout my musical journey.”
